Swimmers' dilemma: chlorine and swimwear - sworn enemies
The popularity of swimming at all levels has increased hugely in the past few years - and with it the use of chlorine in pools to keep bacteria at bay. Swimmers have also become accustomed to having perfectly fitting swimwear - made possible by the use of elastane in the fabric, The problem? Chlorine breaks down elastane - making it the number one swimwear enemy.
The solution In order to help solve the problem, Second Skins have developed three swimwear fabric options to ensure that our customers, be they recreational swimmers or Olympic stars of tomorrow, have the latest in durable performance fabrics.
Which swimsuit? Training, competing or just chilling?
Recreational swimmers With its unbeatable fit, cost effective medium-lustre Second Skins Elastoskins (nylon/elastane) offers excellent value combined with an extensive range of colours to cover most uniform requirements.
Competitive Swimmers Manufactured from superior chlorine-resistant, semi-matt elastane and nylon, Second Skins Chloroskins combines extra-long life with a great fit. A little more costly but well worth the investment for regular swimmers.
Intensive training Made of 100% matt textured polyester PBT, Second Skins Ultraskins swimwear is ideal for intensive training, particularly in high chlorine environments. Given that Ultraskins will last many times longer in chlorine than Elastoskins or Chloroskins, competitive swimmers choose to train in Ultraskins but compete in Elastoskins.
